Vulnerable Aid Organization was founded in 2013 by a group of students from the School of Social Work in Osu, Accra, Ghana. During their community fieldwork and engagement with rural communities, they witnessed firsthand the daily struggles many vulnerable people faced in accessing essential social services, particularly safe water, quality education, and healthcare.
These experiences exposed the deep inequalities affecting underserved communities and inspired the founders to take action. What began as a shared passion among students to support vulnerable populations gradually evolved into a community-driven organization committed to sustainable development and social impact.
VAO is dedicated to fostering a dynamic local democracy that supports transparent, effective service delivery. The organization works to bridge the development gap between rural and urban areas, promoting social well-being through sound infrastructure, development policies, and practices. Its mission is to empower individuals and communities, enabling them to meet their own needs and improve their quality of life.
We see ourselves as partners with the communities we serve, and as such, we apply the Community-Driven Development (CDD) approach in all our project implementations. This approach fosters inclusivity, encourages active community participation, and promotes a strong sense of ownership and sustainability within communities.
