Women's Empowerment

The mission of VAO’s Women Empowerment Program is to foster gender equality and create opportunities for women to realize their full potential. By addressing key barriers such as limited access to reproductive health services, inadequate sanitation, and financial dependence, we strive to empower women to become active contributors to their families, communities, and the economy. Our program focuses on four key areas: SRHR education, gender transformative change, sustainable livelihoods, and entrepreneurship.

Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Programs

We are committed to ensuring that women and girls have access to the information, services, and support they need to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health. Our SRHR programs aim to:

Reusable Pads Initiative

Access to sanitary products is a significant challenge for many women, especially in rural areas. Our Reusable Pads Initiative focuses on providing affordable, sustainable menstrual hygiene products to women and girls. This initiative aims to:

Distribute reusable sanitary pads to young girls and women, helping them manage their menstrual cycles with dignity and hygiene.

Provide education on menstrual health and hygiene practices, ensuring women understand how to use, clean, and store reusable pads.

Promote sustainability by offering a more affordable and environmentally friendly alternative to single-use sanitary products.

Reduce absenteeism in schools

By ensuring girls have access to menstrual products, we aim to improve attendance and participation in education.

Gender Transformative Change for Women

VAO is committed to challenging and transforming harmful gender norms and practices that restrict women’s rights and opportunities. Our Gender Transformative Change initiatives aim to:

Sustainable Livelihoods for Women

We believe that economic independence is key to empowering women. Our Sustainable Livelihoods program focuses on providing women with the skills and resources they need to support themselves and their families. This program includes:

Vocational training

Providing women with skills in various trades such as sewing, hairdressing, and catering to help them start businesses or secure employment.

Microfinance support

Offering small loans and financial literacy programs to women, helping them start or expand small businesses and improve their financial independence.

Agriculture and agribusiness

Training women in sustainable farming practices, organic agriculture, and food production, giving them the tools to increase food security and income for their families.

Access to markets

Connecting women entrepreneurs with local and regional markets to sell their products and expand their businesses.
